The Last of  US Finale review.

The final episodes of season one are tricky beasts. You may have heard from the backers about a second season by the time you film it. But you have to do something that will fit if it won’t happen and leave enough if it does.

The last of us in the finale brought a unique superpower to the fore this time. It made a whole plot that we have seen as part and parcel since zombies rose from the grave and the night of the comet went past us. But by layering and texturing this world and bookending it in such a way to show how pivotal and motivated everyone around Ellie is about Ellie, it raised the stakes and the impact of every decision in it.

We are not here to learn about fireflies and cures. We are here for only two real reasons, characters and interactions. Joel and Ellie have now become so sympatico; Pedro Pascal has taken us on a real journey that has to show both aggression and vulnerability in believable ways, albeit with the odd bout of MDK. Here we see the emotional toll and an opening up that tends to be brushed over in many action characters but is embedded in the role. Rick Grimes screams and shouts but ultimately is a cowboy with all the inherent shrug-off in an episode that comes with that. Joel reaches out to Ellie at her darkest time and is most introverted. Ellie is still traumatised from the events and the threat of the previous episodes, not least of which is the possibility of losing Joel. It only comes out at times. And they finally return to some dynamic as a team and family.

But the thing about family. Especially when talking about adults with the young, we lie to youngsters and hide facts for their safety and our desire to keep them away from a more fantastic world of dangers and deception.

The episode feels more like a coda. Running at less than 45 minutes, it knows the story as a turning point lean by nature. And the action it delivers, but does not wade into protection. The tension is palpable and brief. It’s a great way to end the show.

I worry about the second series. IItsgame roots are becoming more apparent, including the little head-over-heels moment of sending the ladder to help the more significant one climb. But it’s a world that is more than confident, brimming with joel’s assertiveness and allies’ joy just simply turning to the camera and being very assured.

“You Have not seen the last of us.”

Here’s my attempt at rewriting your review to make it more entertaining and easier to read:

The Last of Us finale is the bomb dot com! The final episodes of season one are like playing Jenga – you never know if it’s going to topple over or not. But, man oh man, did the showrunners hit it out of the park!

This time around, the show brought out its secret weapon: superpowers! No, not the kind you’re thinking of – this is the power to make a plot that’s been done to death feel fresh and exciting again. By adding layers and textures to the world and showing how pivotal and motivated everyone around Ellie is, the stakes are raised and every decision packs a punch.

But let’s be real, we’re not here for fireflies and cures. We’re here for the characters and their interactions. And boy, did Joel and Ellie deliver! Pedro Pascal took us on a journey that showed both aggression and vulnerability, making us root for them all the way.

The emotional toll of their journey was also explored, making them feel like a real team and family. But, like any family, there are secrets and lies that need to be hidden from the young’uns. And that’s where the tension comes in – will they be able to keep Ellie safe from the dangers and deceptions lurking in the shadows?

The episode feels like a coda, with the story wrapping up in less than 45 minutes. But don’t let that fool you – the action is still top-notch, leaving you on the edge of your seat.

Overall, The Last of Us finale is a great way to end the show. But, as always, there’s a worry about what’s to come. Will the second series live up to the hype? Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure – you haven’t seen the last of us!
