House Of the dragon episode 8 review

With another time jump and a move from the central kingdom. Having the events and machinations prove to exist within the driftwood family as much as the Targaryen, one wonders why any peasant leaves their homes.

Corlys, in some ways, is shown as a moral center for what little screen time he had. We can quickly see this is thrown under a Kraken regarding family ambition.

That the story of dhanteras sons is still a central point of the story seems weak given all that has come before. But the role of kings’ landings and its small politics continues to add levity at its own points.

With Alice in charge in all but name.

The meeting of visitors as he wastes away with Damon does bring back a point from the start of it all. The ideals and the passion each one represents.

But with the children brought to the old king, we wonder what challenge there could be to the daemon.

Their youngest, Pete the magic dragon

The weirdest thing about this episode is it seems, on the one hand, to want to be a piece of intrigue, yet everyone knows each other’s secrets to the extent no one seems to give a fuck for any genuine tension.

Ultimately this episode lacks that tension, and the knowing looks of talented actors imbuing what they can into the lines of chaff feel padded and at odds with the previous episode that held the exact role of conversation but with some high regard.

And then a head just fuking comes off!

And with that, it shows how little tension there is left in this show. It seems to fall apart like Viserys, with nothing but snark from the young and fear in the old. The family reunion meal degenerates through adolescence and name-calling more than any real gravitas.

Yet while there is a recognition, one can’t help but know there will be no reconciliation.

Another episode that could have been done in 22 minutes. Stretches to an hour and only has some good acting to justify it.

I am totally confident that this will be the end of this. I won’t be here for season 2
