Short film showcase 2
Everyone Forgot. Director: Theo Kai Marlow. Cast: Anwen Bull, James Knapp. UK 2022. 18 min.
Bleak comedy about loneliness and trust as Lily Painter faces what many have an especially fear o; “what If I held a party and nobody came.” Anwen Bull performs the role remarkably, displaying pathos without ever being pitiful and creating a short side without overly sarcastic. James Knapp also makes a great foil as Ben, and the handyman is suddenly surprised while simultaneously utterly sympathetic to Lily’s concerns. It’s a great day in the life of two randoms that turns on a dime and maintains excellent humor throughout. One for the tales of the unexpected.
Legs. Director: Celine Cotran. Cast: Laura Carmichael, Amit Shah. UK 2022. 16 min.
Laura and Amit play an otherwise happy couple trying for a baby. If Laura can’t stop thinking about spiders, Amit can stop reading Iron man comics. A great sense of quirk without snark as the threads that spin in terms of talking to the G.P and the peer groups weave a colorful and entertaining tale of obsession and cravings. A film of fear and release.
The Microscope. Directors: Elliot Vick, Reuben Vick. Cast: Johnny Vivash. 10 min. UK 2022.
While Ostensibly Live action with Johnny Vivash brings perfect physicality, timing, and comedy to the role of a curious scientist, the film is, in many ways, a Pixar film. The microscope plays the role of Daddy Lamp with aplomb, and the soundscape heightens the distance as instead of a deflated ball, we have punctured gore and fixation to hysterical effects. One for the lights out and a significant impact.
Bleep; Director: Ben S. Hyland. Cast: Paul F. Taylor, Rebecca Shorrocks, Toby Williams. UK 2022. 8 min.
Paranormal Activity meets coupling in a kitchen sink dramedy that, in less than 10 minutes, incorporates so many elements of haunted homes. Fate, destiny, and fixing the bloody cabinets. Paul F Taylor is once again game casting and more than happy to be the butt of the jokes. The Short sets our expectations and then exceeds them with a fantastic rug pool and tragic touches at the end.
